What is Integrative Medicine?
Integrative medicine is a partnership between doctor and patient to work toward optimal health, not just the absence of disease. It uses whatever evidence-based modality is least invasive to encourage the body’s innate ability to heal. It supports the whole person—mind, body and spirit.
From the Consortium of Academic Health Centers for Integrative Medicine (CAHCIM):
Integrative Medicine is the practice of medicine that reaffirms the importance of the relationship between practitioner and patient, focuses on the whole person, is informed by evidence, and makes use of all appropriate therapeutic approaches, healthcare professionals and disciplines to achieve optimal health and healing.
Where are you located?
Rain Shadow Integrative Medicine is located at 346 North Sequim Avenue, Sequim, WA 98382. We are near Olympia National Park.
What can I expect at my visit?
You can expect to spend 60 minutes at your first visit for an in-depth review of your personal and family history, current medical concerns, diet, and health habits and goals. Since this is a solo practice with no employees, you will be called by the doctor with any follow-up or laboratory results. You may schedule a cooking class, take advantage of weekly “walk and talk’ sessions with the doctor, and will be invited to attend other classes and events as they occur.
Why don’t you take insurance?
Rain Shadow Integrative Medicine provides gynecologic health and wellness services that address the whole person. By working without the constraints imposed by insurance companies, it becomes possible to devote the time necessary to best care for you. Therefore, the practice does not contract with any insurance providers and payment is required at the time of service.
Do you provide services to men?
Rain Shadow Integrative Medicine is primarily a women’s health practice, but if men wish to be seen for lifestyle consultation or nutrition teaching, that is certainly welcomed.
Will you work with my primary care doctor? How about my chiropractor or my naturopath?
Yes, with your permission I will communicate with any provider so that everyone has all the information and we are working together to optimize your health. It is an important part of integrative medicine to work with other providers in other modalities to help you get the care you need.
Why should I consider the membership option?
The membership is designed to make the cost of our services predictable and affordable. It will allow for a partnership to develop between doctor and patient without concern about adding cost, and will allow you to access classes, weight checks, nutrition teaching and more without additional charges.
Why are routine visits not included in the membership?
Some of the costs of office visits may be reimbursable by submitting your receipt to your insurance company. In order to keep the cost of the membership low and allow people to take advantage of their insurance coverage, the decision was made to keep the office visits separate from the membership.
